Medha Patkar appeals to Nitish to release those opposing asbestos plant

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Convener of National Alliance for People’s Movement, Medha Patkar, has written a letter to Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, demanding the unconditional release of all those arrested for opposing the setting up of asbestos plant in Chainpur in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. She also called for talks with them else the movement may intensify further.

Since May last villagers of Chainpur-Bishunpur in Marwan Bock of Muzaffarpur have been opposing the construction of asbestos plant in their village peacefully despite firing on them by the private guards of the Kolkata-based Balmukund Company on December 13, 2010, alleges Ban Asbestos Network of India (BANI) convenor, Gopal Krishna.

The leaders of Khet Bachao Jivan Bachao Jansangharsh Committee, Tarkeshwar Giri and Kumud Ram, who led a powerful protest against the proposed plant, are still in jail, he added.
