"In five years, we target to become self-dependent in power sector. There will be electricity in every household in the state in the next five years," Modi told reporters at the 9th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas here.

He said the state government has taken several iniatives to liberalise business norms in a bid to attract investment in infrastructure sector.

Modi said Bihar will come out with a policy on renewable energy in two-three months.

"It will be announced in two-three months. We are finalising it," he said, adding the new policy would help promote the use of renewable energy in the state.

It is not surprise. It can be possible. Today Bihar is mostly dependable on electricity supplied by NTPC as Barouni and Muzafferpur plants (now under extension) together give only 80 mw to Bihar while Bihar needs a minimum of 900-1300 mw. To light whole Bihar it needs 2200-2500 mw. At present electricity consumption per capita in Bihar are 100 units against 717 units in India. There are 9 projects of NTPC which are likely to be completed in next 5 years. Its total 9 project production of electricity will be around 14,890 mw. Bihar is supposed to get 20% from there. NTPC is currently producing 32,500 mw and they have plans to increase it up to 75,000 mw. With the economic development in India, Bihar’s individual and commercial consumption of electricity will also sharply increase day-by-day in conjunction with Bihar development.

Every thing is possible in our life but questions are who is doing/creating and controlling................... What is the passion/experience of individual or government to create big empire for public in framed time limit.

Like one of our friend wrote in these comments, why not govt will publish that potential achievements in black & White spread sheet with day/month/year for public, I agree with him. That may help many Indians specially Biharis to contribute/share there knowledge with actual facts and implementations.

There are few power plants under Bihar govt and Bardh is under construction. Govt is not able to find negotiations arguments with technology providers to set those project in right directions.

Do you think that modi has power to turn around the view of technology owners !!! From my knowledge: NO

I was very surprised to see his statement about - 20.000 MW in 5 years " . How would it come about in 5 years ? Can he realistically outline the step by step process ? It can be done if he has Aladdin's Magic Lamp. Let us hope , he gets even a quarter of that.

I hope and pray that he sticks to his words. Otherwise there will be absolutely no difference between Modi and Laloo. If he does keep his words, he will rightfully earn five more terms in Bihar.
