RJD seeks Nitish’s view on proposed Bill on communal violence

Patna,(BiharTimes): Asking the Janata Dal (United) and Chief Minister to explain the position Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Wednesday came down heavily on BJP for oppositing a Bill on communal violence.

Talking to newsmen party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed Khan said now that the BJP has openly voiced its opposition to the draft Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Regulations) Bill 2011 it is the turn of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to make public his stand on the issue.
Criticising BJP MP from Bhagalpur, Syed Shahanwaz Hussain, for his statement that Parliament should not enact a stringent law against its own people the RJD leader said such utterances have proved beyond doubt that BJP was a rabid communal outfit and gives protection to the perpetrators of communal riots.

The former RJD minister said that the BJP’s stand on the proposed Bill was not surprising as it has always been ‘anti-minority’ but now it is upto the Chief Minister to explain his position keeping in view his ‘self-confessed’ secular credentials.

Shakeel Khan said the BJP leadership had never condemned or protested against alleged involvement of some members of majority community like Swami Aseemanand and Pragya Singh Thakur in terrorist activities.

He said RJD was firmly behind any legislation that would deter communal violence and would work with secular parties to ensure smooth passage of the Bill in Parliament whenever the government tabled it.
