Meira flays Nitish govt on Durgawati reservoir project

Patna,(BiharTimes): Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar strongly criticized the Nitish Kumar government for the delay in the construction of Durgawati reservoir project notwithstanding the facts that all the legal and other obstacles have been cleared.

Addressing a public meeting in Badalgarh village in Rohtas district on Tuesday she said there has been an inordinate delay in the construction of Durgawati reservoir project launched 36 years ago to provide irrigation water to the farmers of the bordering Rohtas and Kaimur districts apparently due to the stand of the Nitish government.

Meira, who represents Sasaram reserved Lok Sabha constituency regretted that the reservoir project was delayed earlier due to a tussle between the forest and irrigation departments and a litigation on the issue in the Supreme Court. But now that all the obstacles have been cleared even then the state government was not interested to complete the work, she alleged.

The Speaker said that state government is yet to start construction of two canals in Kaimur and Rohtas districts for supply of water to the farmers for irrigation.
