CM inaugurates Ganga bridge project work

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday inaugurated the Maha Setu (bridge) project over river Ganga at a function organised at Karpoori College in Tajpur block of Samastipur district.

The bridge over the Ganga would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,602 crore on a public-private partnership model. It would connect Samastipur to Bakhtiyarpur near the National Highway to Jharkhand.

A Hyderabad-based private company, Nav Yug Construction, would invest Rs 900 crore, the Union government would provide Rs 277 crore, while the state government the rest amount.

The chief minister said the Maha Setu project would be started within six months and it would be completed in 2014. The state government would give compensation to the landowner.

Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav, Samastipur MP Maheshwar Hazari, Ujjiarpur MP Ashwamegh Devi, MLAs and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

Nand Kishore suggested that the Setu be named after Karpoori Thakur because his birthplace is in Pitaunjhia, a village through which the bridge would pass.
