Family of slain Bihar doctor rejects compensation

Patna, June 12 (IANS) The family of Buddhadev Singh, a doctor who was beaten to death by inmates of a Bihar prison, refused to accept the Rs.10 lakh compensation announced by the state government, officials said Sunday.
Buddhadev Singh was killed May 29 in the Gopalganj district jail when he went inside a ward to conduct the medical check-up of a prisoner.

"Singh's family members refused to accept the compensation announced by the state government," a district administration official in Gopalganj said.

According to officials, Buddhadev Singh's family told state Home Secretary Amir Subhani, who visited their home to handover the money Sunday, that they will not accept the compensation till they get justice.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder.
