Researcher from United States abducted in Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): Twenty-four year old woman scholar, doing research in an American university on Maoists problem has been missing from Jamui district of Bihar for the last couple of days. Incidentally, her local facilitator is also traceless.
According to the superintendent of police Jamui, Raj Narain Singh, the researcher named, Juhi Tyagi, is believed to have gone missing while on her way to Jamui railway station. She wanted to catch train for Bangalore, her hometown.

Reports from Jamui said that Juhi is doing research from an American university in New York. She had visited Jamui in the past too. She had gone to Maoist-affected Khaira block in the district a fortnight ago to conduct her research.

The report, quoting police sources said, that she had visited Khaira, Rupabel, Garhi and Mahuliatand in the district. All these places are considered as the Maoists’ stronghold. It is in Mahuliatand that a couple of years back Maoists killed a dozen policemen.

Juhi had reportedly come in contact with a local Pradip Kumar Das, who became her guide and facilitator. Das took her on his bike to the Maoist-affected villages where she held meetings with local citizens, social activists, NGO workers etc for research purpose. It is suspected that both of them had been adbucted from Mahuliatand.

Police have started a search operation for recovering her. However, till late on Wednesday night no trace could be made about her or her facilitator.

Latest reports said that the Maoists have informed the family members of the facilitator that they have abducted the duo on the suspicion of being police informers.
