Bihar blames Centre for poor condition of Gandhi Setu

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government on Thursday alleged that the Centre was not cooperating with the state for the repair of 5.4 km long Mahatma Gandhi Setu, which bridges Patna with Hajipur.

Replying to a question in the state Legislative Council road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav said the state government had sent a proposal of comprehensive repair of the Setu at a cost of Rs 167.13 crore late last year, but the Centre was yet to okay the proposal.

The minister said that the bridge was in a bad shape due to damage to central hinge bearing and expansion joints at several stretches. He said that part repair over the years has not helped much and for this the Centre was responsible as it had granted funds for repair in patches.
