Gopalganj DM denies report from Imphal on his involvement in murder case

Patna,(BiharTimes): The district magistrate of Gopalganj, Pankaj Kumar Pal, has denied media reports from Manipur, which said that he was involved in the murder of the SDO, Dr Thingnam Kishan and two other staff Y Token and A Rajen when he was posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul in that state in 2009.

Earlier in the day BiharTimes carried a report based on the media report from Imphal stating that the Joint Action Committee has sought action against him for his alleged involvement in the murder of the three.

Pal, while talking to BiharTimes, denied the report that he was any way involved in the murder of the three and said that he had become victim of high-level conspiracy hatched by insurgent groups, who often targeted north Indians.

“As some people were against upright and honest officer like me they joined hands with the insurgents. They created an atmosphere against me and even the local media worked against me,”he said.

“It is only after I got clearance from the Manipur government that I could come over to Bihar. The Commissioner and IG (Intelligence) probed the matter and gave me clean-chit . I, along with my wife and a child, just managed to escape from Manipur,” an emotionally choked Pal, who originally hails from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, told BiharTimes.

Pal, who is a graduate from IIT Kanpur, said that the matter is being investigated by the CBI and the two accused confessed that they had committed the crime.
