State planning to augment milk production: Minister

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar government has prepared a comprehensive plan to augment the milk production in the state in the next five years.
Giving this information in the Upper House of the State Assembly on Monday the Animal Husbandry minister, Giriraj Singh, said that the state is ranked eighth in the milk production and has the capacity to process 10.60 lakh litre daily.

Replying to a question from Neeraj Kumar of Janata Dal (United) in the Legislative Council he said that the department has prepared its five-year plan with a Budget of Rs 447.28 crore.

He also said that the Confederation of Milk Producers' Federation (Comfed) produced surplus milk which caters to the need of people living in Kolkata, Delhi, Gurgaon and Guwahati.

The minister conceded that the Federation had to suspend milk supply for 15 days from Mithila Milk Producers’ Federation and for four days from the Barauni Federation because of bandh, prolonged traffic jams and breakdown of milk tankers.

To overcome this problem the Animal Husbandry department was in the process of buying more milk tankers, he added.

Giriraj also said that the plan to set up a dairy plant at Dehri-on-Sone has been approved. It would have a capacity of processing one lakh litres of milk per day and would start production in March next year.
