DFID help for urban development of Bihar

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): Urban development and Housing Minister Prem Kumar said that the support programme for urban development has been started in Bihar with a budget of 60 million pounds with assistance from the Department for International Development (DFID) of the British government.

 

Replying to debate on the Budgetary demand of urban development and housing department for over Rs 1290.78 crore for the next financial year he said in the state Assembly on Thursday that of this, 50 million pounds is financial assistance and 10 million pounds is for technical assistance.

The minister said that this project would be implemented in 28 towns and will cover 10 municipal corporations. The Assembly passed the demand by voice vote, rejecting the Cut Motions.

The Budgetary demands of labour resources department (Rs 179.43 crore), law department (Rs 515.28 crore) and science and technology department (Rs 106.28 crore) were also passed.

According to the minister the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to provide technical support to prepare Bihar Urban Development Project. The ADB would provide a loan of $200 million under Multi Tranche Financing Facility and work is expected to begin from next fiscal.

Prem Kumar said that a surface water project with a budget of Rs 26 crore has been initiated for Patna. All the 72 wards of Patna Municipal Corporation would be
supplied drinking water.

The minister informed the House that a Rs 150 crore project for the beautification of the banks of Ganga in Patna has been prepared. It was being forwarded to the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) for approval. The NGRBA
has approved four projects for Hajipur, Begusarai, Buxar and Munger at a total cost of Rs 441.86 crore and the state would add Rs 15.16 crore. The Centre has released only Rs 35.37 crore as first installment.
