Ailing Abhayanand, Shafi Alam not relieved by state govt in spite of Centre’s nod

.Patna,(BiharTimes): Two ailing IPS officers, Abhayanand and Shafi Alam, undergoing treatment in Escorts Hospital and AIIMS respectively are yet to be relieved by the state government notwithstanding repeated pleas and central government’s clearance.

Abhayanand, once a blue-eyed boy of the present regime even met the chief minister Nitish Kumar, in this regard but to no avail.

Not only that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has cleared their promotion to the rank of the Director General but the state government has not given its approval.

Incidentally both are 1977 batch IPS officers and still hold the post of Additional Director General.

Reports said that Abhayanand, ADG (Training), has suffered a second heart attack and is admitted in Escorts.

Shafi Alam is undergoing treatment at the AIIMS for Multi-Myeloma (malignant tumour in bone). He had told the state government that his central deputation would help him get proper medical care in Delhi.

Shafi Alam and three other officers ADG V Narayanan, Rajesh Ranjan and Bhrigu Srinivasan (last two IG rank officers) had given their names in the offer list for central deputation to the state government about three months back but no decision has yet been taken.

It needs to be recalled that sometimes back the state government had initiated departmental proceedings against Shafi Alam for visiting Singapore although the chief minister had given his nod. He contested his case in Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which quashed the state government’s proceedings. The government has now moved the High Court against the CAT order.

Reports say that the state government has not promoted the two officers to DG rank despite the Centre enhancing the cadre strength in DG rank from two to three.
