Centre’s green signal for creation of State Environment Impact Assessment Authority

 

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Union government has issued notification for the creation of State Environment Impact Assessment Authority, Bihar, on the recommendation of the Bihar government.According to the deputy chief minister, Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the portfolio of environment and forest, this would facilitate establishment of industrial units in the state as earlier the proposed industries had to obtain environmental no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Centre. Now in most of the cases the state government could issue NOC on the report of the Authority.

He also said that the Centre had appointed Prof Ramesh Chandra Sinha of Zoology Department, Patna University, as chairman of the Authority and Prof Ravindra Kumar Sinha, also of PU, as Member. The environment department advisor will be its member secretary.

Apart from this, the Centre, on the state government’s recommendation, constituted State Expert Appraisal Committee with Dr Sunil Kumar Chowdhary of Botany Department, Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, as chairman and Ashok Kumar Ghosh (Magadh University), Sitaram Singh and Sahdeo Jha (both retired Indian Forest Service officers), Mahesh Prasad Bhagat, Rakesh Kumar Singh and Narendra Kumar (all of NIT, Patna) as members.

The Chairmen and Members of the Authority and Committee will have a tenure of three years each.
