Nitish Kumar in Bhutan to study hydel projects

Patna, May 4 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who left for Bhutan Wednesday for a three-day visit, will study the country's hydel power projects and the concept of Gross National Happiness, an official said.
"Nitish Kumar will study the hydel projects in Bhutan. He will discuss with Bhutan's energy experts about measures to make Bihar self-reliant in energy," an official of the Chief Minister's Office told IANS.

The chief minister is also likely to visit some of the hydel power plants in Bhutan.

At present, Bihar is facing an acute power shortage that has lead to widespread protests in many parts of the state.

"He will also examine Bhutan's Gross National Happiness concept," the official added.

Nitish Kumar, who is accompanied by several high-ranking officials, was invited by Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Jigme Thinley to visit the Himalayan country.
