Bihar students again shine in Civil Services exam

Patna,(BiharTimes): At least 15 candidates from Bihar qualified in the 2010 Civil Service examination. The figure may rise a little bit with more reports likely to come in. The result was announced on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu, with 98 successful candiates topped the list. Both the first and the third topper belonged to that state.

Ajay Prakash, from Samatipur who is doing M Phil from Jawaharlal Nehru University, secured ninth position. He is at the top from Bihar to be followed by Mahendra Kumar of Nawada, who got 37th position.

Saurabh Kumar Suman of Begusarai got 56th . He is at present Trainee DSP in Jharkhand. He cleared in the fourth attempt. He could not even clear PT in the first. In the second and third attempts he reached the interview stage. He is Geography graduate from Delhi University. Hindi and Geography were his optional subjects. He got subject coaching in Patna. For General Studies coaching he went to Delhi.

Rahul Kumar Sinha, who ranked 60, is Trainee IPS in Hyderabad. He is from Nalanda but his father is a district judge in Jamui. He is an engineering graduate. In 2010 he secured 131st rank and got IPS. Last year he also cleared Bihar Public Service Commission and was placed 13.

Sheikhpura’s Rishirendra, son of a small farmer, got 91st position. He is also doing his M Phil from JNU.
Kumar Gaurav of Madhepura got 121st position while Abhimanyu Kumar of Araria was placed 128th.
Danish Ashraf of Sasaram, an MA in History from Hansraj College, Delhi University, secured 145th position. Last year he made it to the Civil Service but got Indian Revenue Service as he was ranked 409th.

With two Arts subjects––Geography and History––as optional Danish, son of lawyer Mohammad Chand Ashraf, made it to the prestigious job notwithstanding the fact that he had his schooling in the Hindi medium school of Sasaram. Gheyasuddin Ansari was another Muslim boy from Sasaram to crack Civil Service exam about five years back.

After doing his Xth from Sasaram Danish got his Plus-II from Ram Manohar Roy Seminary in Patna and like others got coaching for engineering in B M Das Road.

But he switched his gear and opted to do BA (History) from Patna College. After doing that he moved to Delhi to do his MA. Sailesh Pandey of Siwan got 172nd while Patna’s Abhishek Anand secured 320 position. Kumar Gautam of Bhagalpur got 388. Dheeraj Kumar Jaiswal of Nav Kothi village of Begusarai got 420 position.

Lipi Sinha, the only daughter of Rajya Sabha MP of Janata Dal (United), RCP Sinha, is ranked 445. He got Indian Revenue Service. RCP is former Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar.
Rajesh Kumar of Nawada is ranked 711.

Siwan’s Azhar Jamal got 857 position. He is from Bilaspur village and son of a farmer. He had chosen History and Urdu as optional. He qualified in the second attempt. He first prepared in Patna and than moved to Delhi and prepared on his own.

What is something different about Bihar is that though the number is not much high many of those who qualified are students of Arts and not Science or Technology as elsewhere. Interestingly, 15 out of first 25 who qualified in this year’s UPSC exam are engineers.

There are 151 vacancies for IAS, 35 for IFS and 150 for IPS.
