JD(U) moves for termination of membership of four of its MPs

Patna,(BiharTimes): On the day Chief Minister Nitish Kumar met the Janata Dal (United) president, Sharad Yadav, in New Delhi reports are pouring in that the party is about to terminate tne membership of four of its suspended MPs and an MLC.

Though about a dozen Janata Dal (United) MPs openly defied the party line or put up their own candidates on the ticket of rival parties in the Assembly election held last year the leadership has suspended only four––three of Lok Sabha and one of Rajya Sabha.

They are former state party president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Sushil Singh, Mangni Lal Mandal and Upendra Kushwaha––the first three are members of the Lower House while the last named of the Upper House.

It remained unclear as to under what compulsion the party refused to take action against other rebellious MPs, for example, Monazir Hasan, Purnmasi Ram, Captain Jai Narayan Nishad etc.

Reports said that the party’s national president Sharad Yadav, parliamentary party leader Ram Sundar Das, deputy leader Ranjan Prasad Yadav, Rajya Sabha members Shivanand Tiwary, RCP Singh and Ali Anwar met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari with proof of the anti-party activities of the four and strongly pleaded for termination of their membership. To substantiate their points they submitted newspapers’ clippings and audio-visual tapes to the two presiding officers.

In the same way a similar petition had been submitted to the Chairman of Bihar Legislative Council Tara Kant Jha for the termination of the membership of Prem Kumar Mani. He was nominated by the Governor and his term expires in 2012
