21 killed as Garib Rath hits Bolero in North Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): At least 21 people, mostly women and children travelling on a Balero, were killed and half a dozen seriously injured on Sunday afternoon when it was hit by Hazrat Nizamuddin-Jainagar Garib Rath at unmanned railway crossing no. 17 near Bharia-Bishanpur village under Rajnagar block of Madhubani district of North Bihar.

Reports from the spot said that the victims belonged to Bharia-Bishanpur village, situated just by the side of the railway line.
The victims were going to Rajnagar to participate in the victory procession of Aniruddha Yadav, a local villager, who had won the election for the post of mukhia of their village panchayat.

The immediate reason of the accident could not be known but it seems that either the vehicle got stuck or broke down on the tracks or the driver thought that he would be able to cross the railway tracks despite the approaching train.

The impact of the accident was so severe that the Bolero was dragged about half-a-kilometre before the train stopped. Bodies could be removed from the smashed Bolero with much difficulty. A crane was sent from Samastipur to disengage the Bolero from the engine of the train.
The accident site falls under the Darbhanga-Jainagar section of East Central Railway.
