Bihar okays creation of 40 women police stations

Patna, Nov 3 (IANS) The Bihar cabinet Thursday sanctioned the creation of 40 women police stations in the state.
The state cabinet coordination department secretary Ravikant said the police station would be spread across the state.

"The government will set up one women police station in each police district," he said.

He said the government had also approved the creation of 643 posts, including 21 inspectors, 121 sub-inspectors, 101 assistant sub-inspectors, 80 havildars and 324 constables for the women police station.

According to him, women police stations would be exclusive for women.

According to latest official statistics, a total of 6,790 cases of crime and atrocities on women have been registered in Bihar this year.

Of them, 795 cases are of rape, 2,552 of kidnapping, 104 of eve-teasing, 1,307 of dowry deaths and 2,032 of dowry torture.
