State government to tone up Public Distribution System

Patna,(BiharTimes): The state government is planning to tone up the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Bihar so that foodgrains reached the poor in time.

Addressing a meeting of District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Officers at the Secretariat on Saturday Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the state government would ensure that foodgrains reach the poor in time.

 


He said the state government wants that the benefits must reach to all those intended. It has already introduced coupon system for drawing ration at subsidised rate.

Nitish said the task ahead is to make the PDS free from middlemen for the SMS system would be strengthened. He said the state government had decided to ensure that the farmers should receive appropriate price of agriculture produce for achieving the procurement of foodgrains.

Chief Secretary Navin Kumar, Agriculture Production Commissioner A K Sinha, Cooperative department''s secretary S K Negi, besides state home secretary Amir Subhani and Director General of Police Abhayanand were present on the occasion.
