State govt takes U-turn on punishment to doctors

Patna,(BiharTimes): Less than two days after the state government decided to withhold the salary of 144 doctors of the six medical colleges and hospitals the state government seems to have buckled under the pressure of Bihar Health Services Association (BHSA). It has now decided to pardon all the doctors.

The doctors were found absent during duty hours.

But on Monday the health minister said that they would be pardoned if they committed themselves to reporting for duty on time in future. They were punished on Saturday evening for dereliction of duty.

They were not found on duty during checks conducted by the department in September and October.

Health minister Ashwani Choubey said that the department would consider a rollback of the decision if the doctors gave commitment not to repeat the offence.

The BHSA strongly criticized the state government’s action and said that the doctors in the state are over-worked and perform their duties in odd-hours. Therefore, they should not be singled out for such treatment.
