A good act lands principal in trouble

Patna, Oct 17 (IANS) The acting principal of a government school in Bihar has been using his own money to pay the nine teachers he hired to beat a teacher shortage.

But the principal, whose move has been lauded by parents of the school students, is likely to face action for acting without permission from the concerned authorities.

Ram Yatan Safi of the Mata Sahay Chaudhary Government Middle School in Darbhanga district appointed the teachers without government approval, an official said Monday.

"I hired the teachers and was paying them from my pocket for the sake of the students," Ram Yatan told IANS over telephone. "I paid each teacher Rs.2,000 a month."

He admitted they were hired without the necessary permission.

District education officer Chandra Shekhar Kumar said: "We will take action against him."
