Residents protest murder of woman police cook in Rohtas district

Patna,(BiharTimes): The murder of an elderly woman, who used to cook food for police angered the residents of Akodi Gola and its adjoining areas of Dehri-on-Sone. They laid a siege to Indrapuri police station in Rohtas district for more than six hours on Wednesday. The woman was reportedly murdered late on Tuesday evening.


Rukmini Kunwar, 60, was abducted and subsequently killed by criminals when she was returning home after completing her work at Indrapuri police station where she was employed as a cook. Her body was found near the canal early on Wednesday morning.
As the news of her murder spread like a wild fire, a large number of people gathered outside the police station and shouted slogans against police administration. They held the police responsible for the murder of the woman.
The mob turned violent and started pelting stones when the police tried to lift Rajpur-Dehri Road blockade, which disrupted vehicular movement since morning. As a result, the police had to beat a retreat from the spot.
According to superintendent of police, Rohtas, Manu Maharaj, two persons identified, as Chunna Mahto and Mahendra Dom, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The police recovered blood-stained clothes from possession of Chunnu, who is suspected to be involved in the murder. The SP said the murderers had slit the victim’s throat and threw her body near the canal.
