Abhayanand clips SPs’ power in deployment of SAP

Patna,(BiharTimes): On the very first day of taking office of the DGP, Abhayanand, on Thursday issued directive that all Superintendents of Police would take permission from the IG, Operations, for deploying the Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) for anti-naxal operations. Now ADG (Law and Order) would have overall operational control over SAP.

Thus the DGP has taken away from the SPs concerned the direct control over SAP, which was raised five years back. Incidentally, Abhayanand gets the credit of raising this force when he was ADG (Law and Order). SAP was created with the purpose of taking on Maoists and criminal gangs.

According to ADG (Headquarters) Rajyavardhan Sharma the DGP had also directed that all the files relating to the IPS officers and DSPs would remain with the wings concerned of the Home (Police Department), not with the DGP confidential cell.

It needs to be reminded that former DGP Neelmani had initiated the system of keeping the files of the police officials with the DGP confidential cell. The DGP would now concentrate more on policy, planning and chalking out strategy for controlling crime and other measures.

ADG (Headquarters) also informed that out of 1,701 applications relating to issue of passport and character verification, 1,201 were disposed before the prescribed time limit under the Right to Services Act, which came into effect recently.
