Former Patna HC judge moves to SC

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court S J Mukhopadhyay, who rejected chief minister Narendra Modi’s nominee for the post of Lokayukta was on Saturday elevated to the post of Supreme Court judge.


Justice Mukhopadhyay, who started his career from the Patna High Court, shot into fame, when along with Justice Sachchidanand Jha he formed a two-member bench which monitor the infamous fodder scam of Bihar in 1990s.


is all set to be elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court. As per available information President Pratibha Patil has signed the warrant of appointment on Friday last and the Chief Justice is due to take oath of office on September12.
Chief Justice Mukhopadhaya, 61, who hails from Bihar, was appointed as a permanent judge of the Patna High Court in November 1994. He has also served at the Jharkhand High Court and the Madras High Court where he functioned as the Acting Chief Justice from May 9 to 18 in 2008.
