Council creates history, terminates membership of Prem Kumar Mani

Patna,(BiharTimes): For the first time in the history of Bihar, the Chairman of the Legislative Council, Tarakant Jha, on Monday terminated the membership of rebel Janata Dal (United) MLC, Prem Kumar Mani, from the House for his “anti-party” activities.

According to the Administrative Officer of the Legislative Council, Madhu Kumar Sinha, the Chairman terminated Mani’s membership following a complaint by JD(U) chief whip Sanjay Singh.

During a hearing held before the Chairman last week, Mani openly admitted that he had spoken against the party and its policies but defended his action on the ground that it was his fundamental right to speak on any issue.

After the hearing, in which Sanjay Singh too was present, the Chairman had reserved his order.

Mani's tenure in the Council was scheduled to expire on May 6, 2012.

Mani and others are close to rebel MP, Upendra Kushwaha. The Janata Dal (United) leadership is seeking his termination from the Rajya Sabha and of three other party MPs from Lok Sabha.
