NIU follows international criteria on appointment: Gopa Sabarwal

Patna,(BiharTimes): Prof Gopa Sabarwal, the Vice Chancellor of the Nalanda International University, has rebutted the charge regarding her appointment.

“Nalanda International University is a standalone international institution. It follows internationally recognised criteria to appoint its functionaries. It goes by its own rules framed by the Governing Council (earlier known as Mentor Group) rather than the one of the UGC or any such body confined in its functioning to a particular country,” she was quoted in the Telegraph.

Reacting for the first time after the story first appeared in BiharTimes on September 3 last she said “after all, the Governing Council under Professor (Amartya) Sen’s stewardship comprises globally acclaimed academics. The people questioning my appointment and qualifications should, at least, know about the process and functioning of international institutions. The people who have doubts should take up the issue with the Governing Body.”

Now it has come to light that the Governing Council of the upcoming Nalanda International University has given a “free hand” to Vice Chancellor Gopa Sabarwal in making the institution operational by next year.
The Council headed by Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen is firm on Sabarwal helming the institution.
