Nitish rushes to Delhi but failed to convince Kalam

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, who flew to New Delhi on Friday, to request the former President A P J Abdul Kalam to reconsider his decision to dissociate himself from the Nalanda International University failed in his attempt.
Kalam was appointed as the Visitor of the NIU by the Bihar government but he resigned after he was reportedly ignored over the appointment of Gopa Sabharwal as the VC of the Unversity.

However, reports from New Delhi said that Kalam refused to oblige Nitish.

The Bihar chief minister stayed at Kalam’s New Delhi residence for 40 minutes, but to no avail. The former President told the CM that he had already put it in writing to dissociate himself so there is no question of reconsidering it.
Kalam was unhappy after Amartya Sen-headed Mentor Group, selected Gopa Sabharwal as the VC.
Kalam reportedly told Nitish how he was never consulted over the appointment of Gopa. Nitish tried his best to persuade him to reconsider his decision. He also told him that the state government had no role in her appointment.
What is strange is that Kalam’s decision to quit the post of Visitor remained unreported in the media in this era of information explosion. It appears that all efforts were made to hush up the matter. It is only after the BiharTimes broke the story of the appointment of Gopa Sabharwal on September 3 that senior journalist of Bihar K K Singh wrote an Open Letter to Amartya Sen and sent a copy to Dr Kalam. Upon this his Executive Secretary replied that he is in no way involved with Nalanda International University, which is in fact his brainchild.
On Friday Kalam reportedly offered all possible support from his side but politely excused himself from reconsidering his decision.
