State JD(U) Dalit Cell chief threatens to quit

Patna,(BiharTimes): The state president of Janata Dal (United) Dalit Cell, Ram Balak Paswan, has reportedly threatened to quit the party post following ‘humiliation’ meted out to the former chief minister Bhola Paswan Shashtri by none else but the chief minister Nitish Kumar.

According to reports chief minister Nitish Kumar skipped the birth anniversary function of Shastri organised by Dalit Cell of the party on Wednesday on the plea of thin attendance.

However, the CM’s decision disappointed a gathering of around 1,000 people belonging to Scheduled Caste, mostly Paswans, whom the Janata Dal (United) is trying to woo.

The chief minister’s decision came after all arrangements had been made for his visit in accordance to the protocol. The security had been beefed up in and around the hall and proper checks were conducted.
Artistes sang songs in praise of the Nitish Kumar, who was scheduled to arrive at the venue at 1 PM but by that time, only half of the hall’s seats were occupied. When the organisers were informed that CM would arrive half an hour later, there was enough time to summon more people but even then it could not exceed more than 1,000. The hall has the capacity of 2400.

After that the State Janata Dal United Dalit Cell chief Ram Balak Paswan started calling individuals to the dais and requested a few of them to pay tributes to Shastri. But this time pass formula did not work.
It was much later that the state party chief Basistha Narayan Singh reached the venue and announced that the chief minister is not coming to attend the programme as he is busy with some work.

This infuriated those present on the occasion as they dub it as humiliation to late Shashtri.
Later party sources said the JD(U) Dalit cell president threatened to resign from his post.
