Scholar fit for VC was removed from Mentor Group

Patna,(BiharTimes): Renowned historian originally from Bihar, Prof D N Jha, was dropped from the Nalanda Mentor Group (now Governing Council) only a few weeks after his induction in 2007.
“I was contacted by N K Singh sometime in summer of 2007. He sought my consent to serve as a member of the NMG,” Prof Jha was quoted in the Times of India.

Prof Jha, who twice served as the Head of the Department of History in Delhi University, is considered as an authority in Ancient Indian History. In fact, many people are of the view that he would have been a much better candidate for the post of VC than Gopa Sabharwal, who is an Associate Professor in Sociology, the subject which has little to do with the concept of the Nalanda International University.

According to report Prof Jha’s ticket for the first NMG meeting to be held between July 13 and 15, 2007 in Singapore was booked. His room was also booked at Fullerton Hotel between July 12 and 17. But his name was dropped at the final moment for the reason better known to those who are running the show.
