SC stays Patna High Court order on VCs appointment

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Supreme Court has stayed the order of Patna High Court restraining the financial and administrative powers of the newly-appointed Vice Chancellor of six universities in the state.
Following the apex order ruling the VCs will now be able to exercise all their administrative and financial powers till the final hearing of the case.

The six VCs had been camping in New Delhi for the past several days. They have returned to their respective university headquarters and resumed their duties.

It needs to be recalled that a division bench of the Patna High Court comprising Justice S K Katriar and Justice A Amanullah had a few weeks back directed the Chancellor, VCs and pro-VCs to explain their position by October 24, and take decisions only on routine academic matters and salary payment during the intervening period.

Earlier in May last the High Court had quashed the appointment of Magadh University VC Arvind Kumar and Veer Kuer Singh University VC Subhas Prasad Sinha on the ground that their appointments had been made by the Chancellor without consultation with the state government.

The Chancellor on August 1 last appointed six VCs and five pro-VCs. The state government is of the view that it was not consulted
