JD(U) leader forced by party bigwigs to withdraw case against Bihar minister

Patna,(BiharTimes): Hours after Youth Janata Dal (United) general secretary, Shambhu Sharan Patel, lodged an FIR against Food and Consumers’ Protection Minister, Shyam Rajak, several senior party leaders almost compelled the former to withdraw the case.

Patel, who is also a contractor, lodged an FIR accusing Rajak of threatening and abusing him when he went to him for some work on the last day of the financial year. He also accused Rajak of demanding Rs 1.50 lakh from him.

Several party leaders met the Secretariat DSP, Rakesh Dubey, in this regard on the same evening. A television channel exposed the whole story live the following day on Sunday.

The leaders who met the DSP in this regard were Sanjay Kumar Singh (MLC), Ravindra Kumar Singh and Bablu.

Later, Patel told journalists that he was asked to withdraw case against the minister. He said that he was assured that his grievances would be taken care of. However, he said that the minister concern would be held responsible if anything personally happens to him.

Rajak, however, repeatedly denied all such charges level against him.

Janata Dal (United) sources claimed that the clash between the two had nothing to do with politics and were related to the personal transaction between the two.

Interestingly, the chairman of the Janata Dal (United) Disciplinary Action Committee, Gyanendra Singh Gyanu (MLA), had described Patel’s charge as unbelievable and ludicrous. On the other hand the state party president, Vashisth Narayan Singh, counselled the party leaders and office-bearers not to take any contract.

What is strange is that all these unsavoury development took place only two days after chief minister Nitish Kumar, while speaking in the state Assembly, claimed that his government did not protect any errant leader or politician.

The whole episode showed the ruling Janata Dal (United) in a very poor light, especially because it happened on the last day of the financial year.
