Admission row: Prestigious Bhagalpur school closed after threat from politicians

Patna,(BiharTimes): Thanks to some local ruling NDA politicians and henchmen, the management of St Joseph’s School, Bhagalpur, has been forced to close the school indefinitely on Monday. If situation does not improve the school authorities may declare early summer vacation.

According to Father Sahay Raj, the Vice Principal of the school, the management has been facing a peculiar problem for the past two weeks. Persons whose wards were not admitted to the school in the current academic session have started threatening school authorities of dire consequences.

Media reports from Bhagalpur said that a number of people, along with an influential local politician, on Sunday stormed into the campus and threatened the employees. They reportedly warned them that the building of the school and its buses would be set ablaze if the applicants concerned were not admitted immediately.

“The way in which a public representative, along with some persons, threatened the school employees yesterday (on Sunday) is a matter of concern for us. The politician asked us to admit the children immediately, else he would close down the school,” Father Raj was quoted in the Telegraph.

The principal of the school, Father Varghese Pananghatt, is out of Bhagalpur. The school authorities are planning to lodge a case against the persons concerned after he returns.

Police claimed that they knew about the incident and would act if anyone complained against the politician concerned.

According to Naugachia SP, Jayantkant, who is holding the additional charge of Bhagalpur SP, (the district SP K S Anupam is on leave) the police can not take appropriate action unless a complaint is lodged.
