Patna,(BiharTimes): Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray dared Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to attend Bihar Divas function in Mumbai on April15 even as the organizers play down the tension caused by their decision to hold such a programme.  Addressing a rally at Idgah Maidan in Malegaon on Thursday evening, he said he thought that Nitish Kumar was a nice person, who was developing his state. But what was the need for him to celebrate Bihar Diwas in Mumbai when Biharis are settled in other states too. | Referring to Bihar chief minister’s statement that he does not need visa to come toMumbai, he challenged him by saying “let us see how Nitish celebrates Bihar Din in Mumbai.”
Raj also said that Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Home Minister R R Patil should ask the Bihar chief minister not to celebrate theday in Mumbai.
The MNS chief also alleged that Malegaon and Bhivandi towns of the state, known for powerlooms and sizeable Muslim population, have become havens for Pakistanis and Bangladeshis living illegally in India and urged the locals to hand over such people to the police.

Meanwhile, the organisers of Bihar Diwas in Mumbai clarified that it had no political overtones. Only the chief minister Nitish Kumar is attending the programme and none of his ministerial colleagues are coming to attend the programme. Janata Dal (United) MLC and shipping tycoon Devesh Thakur, who had studied in Mumbai said on Thursday that it is purely a social cultural event that the chief minister would celebrate with the Bihari people living in Mumbai. It has not been directed against Maharashtra, its culture or its politics. Thakur, one of the main organizers of the function. who enjoys good rapport with Shiv Sena and several Maharashtra-based parties and leaders, said that he had high regards for the Thackeray family’s commitment to nationalism. He said the Bihar chief minister is, in fact, doing what the Maharashtra leaders are wishing him to do. He has been fast creating employment opportunities to stop Bihar labourers from migrating to other states. This is what the MNS precisely wants the Bihar government to do.   comments... |
