BJP appears divided over Nitish-Raj telephonic conversation

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bharatiya Janata Party appears to be a divided house over the decision of chief minister Nitish Kumar to talk to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief to seek permission to visit Mumbai.

A day after the state BJP president Dr C P Thakur strongly criticized Nitish for talking to Raj Thackeray, the spokesman of the party, Syed Shahnawaz Husain, while talking to mediapersons in Patna, described the chief minister as a large-hearted person who never refuses to speak to anybody who wants to speak to him.

He said Nitish’s decision to attend Bihar Divas celebrations at Mumbai was aimed to promote the national unity and integrity along with the interests of Bihar.
Shahnawaz said that it was due to the chief minister’s explanation of his good intention behind attending Bihar centenary celebrations that those who were initially opposed to his visit backed down.

Interestingly, the Bihar Diwas celebrations, both in Delhi and Mumbai, turned out to be entirely Janata Dal (United) show with no BJP leader anywhere around. Yet Shahnawaz Hussain said that Nitish was the chief minister and represented the entire state and its over 10 crore people.
Though Dr Thakur, as reported earlier, came down heavily on Nitish for what he said seeking Raj Thackeray’s permission and accepting the conditions laid down by him the deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Saturday backed Nitish on this count.

Whatever may be Shahnawaz’s or Sushil Modi’s stand on the issue the truth is that an overwhelming section of the BJP rank and file is upset over the way Nitish is running the entire show.
