Patna,(BIharTimes): Though Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav strongly disagreed with Lal Krishna Advani’s prediction of a non-Congress, non-NDA alliance coming to power after 2014 polls yet Bihar chief minister NItish Kumar on Wednesday stood behind the BJP patriarch by stating that Advani wrote in his blog keeping in mind the present situation in the country.
Earlier, Janata Dal (United)’s state president, Vashishth Narayan Singh and the national spokesman, Shivanand Tiwary, had also supported Advani’s prediction. Thus, in a way Nitish Kumar too had conceded NDA defeat before fighting a war. This is exactly what Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray, said regarding Advani’s prediction in the editorial in his party’s mouthpiece, Saamana. |
"This is like a General saying before a war that there is no guarantee on the outcome, and demoralising the entire Army," Thackeray said.
“If Advani has any doubts, he can come to me and I will give him a dose of morale and strength," Thackeray said and asked NDA "not to lose heart".
On the other hand RSS ideologue M G Vaidya said it was premature to make a prediction at this stage. "It is premature at this stage. It would be inappropriate to say anything at this stage," Vaidya said.
But Bihar Chief Minister’s Wednesday statement backing Advani once again suggests that he, is in one way or the other, is taking side in the infighting within the BJP. Nitish too had thus accepted that there is no future for NDA in 2014, therefore, he made it clear that he is not the prime ministerial candidate of the alliance.
Yet he once again wants the BJP to announce its candidate for Prime Minister at the earliest. This is in spite of the fact that many in the BJP have said it is too early to announce who would lead the NDA’s campaign.
Nitish said whatever alliance goes into an election, it should declare the leader before the election. This benefits everyone because people can test the candidate, there can be debate and dialogue about the candidate. He said in the past, NDA has had this practice. For example, Atal ji’s name was declared before the elections.
He reiterated that he did not want the NDA to pick a candidate who is not secular, thus once again making it clear his opposition for the Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi.
