                     | Patna,(BiharTimes): When tall claims are being made about women empowerment in Bihar girls are becoming increasingly unsafe and are seeking help from none else but the chief minister, National Commission for Women, and DGP of the state. Repeated cases of rapes, gangrapes and sexual harassment are pouring in from different parts of the state with government machinery either being accused of protecting the culprits or are busy giving different colour to these incidents.
 | On Friday nine girls from Rohtas district met DGP Abhayanand, when their e-mail to Nitish Kumar failed to yield any result. In fact they came to Patna to meet the NCW member, Charu Bali Khanna, who was here to probe the infamous Patna teenaged gangrape case. It was she who asked them to meet the DGP. What is ironical is that these girls are living under constant threat for the last five years––that is, since 2007. to complain about molestation and eve-teasing by the youths. These girls are from Nagendra Mahila College, Badri Narayan College and Anjabit Singh College, Rohtas. Narrating their woes the girls demanded safety from the DGP as they have lost all hopes from the local administration. They alleged morphing of their photos taken on mobile phones by miscreants to blackmail them. A girl from Aliganj village, alleged that they had been repeatedly complaining since 2007 about the harassment through letters to the local officials as well as senior officials of the state. They said a group of miscreants continuously harass them, with vulgar gestures and threats of acid attack if they did not talk to the boys. She said that they have even sent an e-mail to the chief minister, Nitish Kumar, on April 30 last but to no avail. They said that they approached the DM, SP, IG and several senior police officials of the state. They even contacted the Bihar State Women’s Commission, but their pleas fell on deaf ears. The girls even threatened to commit suicide if they are not given proper security.    |
