Rabri Devi leads protest over Adalat Ghat tragedy in Council, seeks CBI probe

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Bihar Legislative Council on Friday had an unusual scene as former chief minister, Rabri Devi, led MLCs of her party in the portico of the Upper House to demand CBI inquiry into the killing of a large number of people due to bridge collapse on Chhath day (Nov 19).

The members, carrying  placards, raised slogans against the Nitish government, for several minutes before dispersing.

Inside the House the Opposition parties, including the Left disrupted the proceedings and demanded a special debate on the Adalat Ghat tragedy.

Earlier, the Leader of Opposition in the Upper House, Ghulam Gaus, sought a special debate on the Adalat Ghat tragedy. Nawal Kishore Yadav, Tanvir Hasan and Mishri Lal Yadav, all of RJD, Kedar Nath Pandey (CPI) and Basudeo Singh (CPM) too demanded debate and government reply on this issue.

Amid noisy scenes, Council chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh rejected the demand for special debate, saying the matter would be taken up after the Question Hour.

CPI member Kedar Nath Pandey said the probe should also cover the presence of doctors in PMCH on the fateful day. The chairman said the government would give its reply in the current session of the House. He also said that the final probe report was yet to come.
