ITC starts building milk processing plant in Bihar

Patna,(BiharTimes): ITC Ltd on Monday began construction of a milk processing plant in Munger district. The plant will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore and the work will be completed in one year.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone of the milk processing plant, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, said Bihar has huge potential for development in milk and food processing sector due to the abundant resources like milching cattle and fodder.

The state government has decided to set up milk processing units with capacity of 32 lakh litre milk production per day in Khagaria, Bhojpur and Munger districts, he said.

According to Executive Director of ITC Kurush Grant the plant would have milk processing capacity of two lakh litres per day and produce 10 tonne of ghee, 20 tonne milk powder and 20 tonne milk in pouches for domestic consumption per day.

ITC will set up two food processing units in the state soon.

ITC Ltd or initially Imperial Tobacco Company was in the beginning just a cigarette making company, which had in the recent years made its foray into consumer goods, hotel and food sectors. This was basically because it felt threatened by the anti-tobacco campaign.
