Main accused in Patna triple murder case escapes to Canada

Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as Gopal Sharan Singh, the father of Devesh, the prime suspect in the murder of his stepmother and stepsisters, has sought death penalty to his son, reports from Delhi said that he allegedly fled to Canada.

His escape thus dealt a blow to the investigations into the case.

According to the Senior superintendent of police Amrit Raj he has fled to Toronto (Canada). The police team sent to New Delhi tried to locate him, but it came to know that he left for Canada.

The Patna Police is in touch with the immigration authorities and want to know when and how he managed to leave the country.

Meanwhile, the police has also questioned Devesh’s wife Moushami Pandya in New Delhi.

Reports also said that Devesh’s father-in-law is an official in the diplomatic service and sources said he could have helped him escape.

The police believe that the murder was very well-planned. With Devesh fleeing the country, his father is the only person who can throw more light on the whole episode.

Police now believe that as per plan it seems that Devesh also wanted to take his father to Canada. It was with this purpose that he took him to Delhi. The police is now finding out whether Gopal had a passport or not.

Gopal, who left for New Delhi on Friday with his son, had returned to Patna and was detained. On Tuesday he was taken to his Indrapuri residence, where his wife and two daughters, were murdered.

Police sources now say that though there is an extradition treaty between Canada and India, bringing Devesh back to the country will take a lot of time. The police will have to contact the ministry of external affairs and inform the officials about the case.
