Missing girl's family seeks president help

Patna, Dec 23 (IANS) The family of a schoolgirl abducted Sep 18 from her home in Bihar sought Sunday President Pranab Mukharjee's help to trace her.

"Ninety-six days have passed but police have failed to make any breakthrough to trace my daughter," said Atulya Chakravorty, the anguished father of the missing 13-year-old.

"We have sought the president's intervention," he said.

The girl went missing in Muzaffarpur district, about 70 km from here, Chakravorty told IANS over telephone.

The Class 7 student of a public school was abducted from her home. Her name is being withheld for legal reasons.

Chakravorty said his daughter was abducted by property dealers since he had refused to give up a piece of prime land in Muzaffarpur.

Additional Director General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey said he had urged Bihar Police chief Abhyanand to hand over the case to the CID.
