Patna, Dec 24 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Monday favoured setting up of fast-track courts for trial of rape cases, while RJD chief Lalu Prasad demanded death sentence for rapists.
"I strongly feel that fast track courts should be set up for trials of rape cases in the country. It will provide justice to victims and punishment to culprits," Nitish Kumar told media persons in Darbhanga district.

 | He said it was unfortunate that delay in court trials helped alleged rapists to get rid of punishment.
"Fast track courts for the purpose would deliver justice in time," he said, adding that the angry protests in Delhi and many other parts of the country against gang-rape of a 23-year-old woman in a moving bus in New Delhi was a clear sign that people are fed up with the existing system.

On the other hand, Lalu Prasad demanded that rapists should be awarded the death sentence.

"RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) would support death sentence for rapists when the issue comes up for discussion in parliament," he told media persons here.

He said that the "minor punishment" of a seven year jail term is inadequate for rapists.

"I am in favour of amending existing laws to end the menace," said Lalu Prasad, also justifying the people's protest and anger over the Delhi gangrape.
