Bihar court sentences 10 to death for 2009 massacre

Patna, Feb 14 (IANS) A Bihar court Tuesday sentenced to death 10 people and four to life for the 2009 killing of 16 people in what has come to be known as the Amausi massacre case.

All those named by the court in Khagaria are suspected Maoists, an official said.

Additional District and Sessions Judge C.B. Dwivedi had last week Wednesday convicted 14 people and acquitted an equal number in the case.

In the early hours of Oct 2, 2009, 16 people were killed in Amausi village. A land dispute between Dalits and farmers was believed to be the reason behind the carnage.

According to district police, the killings have been blamed on the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist.
