Digha landowners sit on daylong fast to protest demolition move

Patna,(BiharTimes): Hundreds of landowners and residents of Digha, including a large number of women, resorted to a daylong hunger strike and anti-government sloganeering near Ashiana Canal in protest against the Bihar State Housing Board’s (BSHB) decision to demolish the houses on 400 acres of land on the western side of the Digha-Ashiana Road. Houses built on the 600 acres on the eastern side of the road would, however, be regularized.

The agitators, under the banner of Digha Krishi Bhumi-Awas Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, want 1024.52 acres of land to be freed from the acquisition of Housing Board. They termed it as a Black Policy.

Manoranjan Prasad Singh, the chairman of Digha Krishi Bhumi-Awas Bachao Sangharsh Samiti, threatened that their protest would continue until the state government roll back its policy.

They raised slogans like Sushil Modi murdabad (Down with Sushil Modi) as their ire is directed against him.

Meanwhile, the RJD and LJP have decided to support the agitation. The state chief of RJD, Ram Chandra Purve, also joined the dharna and said that it would raise the issue in the state Assembly.

Satyanand Sharma, the general secretary of the LJP, said that his party president Ram Vilas Paswan, would raise the issue in Rajya Sabha.
