Lalu calls CBI biased, along with Jagannath Mishra appear before court

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad on Tuesday denied all allegations against him in a multi-crore fodder scam case, claiming they were baseless and aimed at ruining his political career.
Appearing before the Special CBI Court of Pravas Kumar Singh, the RJD chief accused the CBI of being biased. He said false cases are being thrust on him and he is being dubbed as chara chor (fodder thief).

Seeking justice from the court he said while people call him chara chor (fodder thief) traditionally Yadavs are called ghas chor (thieves of grass). He reposed full faith in the judiciary.

The court recorded his statement in a fodder scam case pertaining to alleged fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from Chaibasa Treasury between 1992 and 1995.

Lalu’s predecessor Jagannath Mishra also gave his statement. Both his, Lalu’s and statement of four others were recorded under CrPC 313.

Lalu, who took over three hours to record his statement, faces charges in six fodder cases–– five in Ranchi and one in Patna. He had been acquitted by a Court in a DA case, related to the fodder scam, in December 2006.

A total of 41 out of 53 cases were completed in convictions with over 300 persons being convicted in the Rs. 950 crore scam that was unearthed in January 1996.

Lalu denied each of the charges put up by the court, ranging from allegedly protecting some of the fodder accused, to misuse of funds.

He told the judge that his political rivals, in collusion with CBI officials, have made false cases to dislodge and destabilise his government way back in 1996 and spoil his political career.

Reiterating that the scam had been going on since 1977, Lalu accused the CBI of manipulating the files, which they had taken in two trucks.

Later, Lalu dubbed the Central Bureau of Investigation as Jalsaaz.
