Three students injured in shootout, bomb attack on PU campus

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Wheeler Senate Hall of Patna University witnessed another day of muscle flexing on Saturday. This time it took a violent turn.

Three students, including  a girl, Ritu Kumari, were injured when some students of Jackson and Mintu Hostels allegedly attacked the activists of All India Students Association (AISA) with bombs and firearms, when they were demanding students’ union election.

The incident caused panic in the neighbourhood.

Students, even the girls, alleged that they were beaten up by the goons. They see a deeper conspiracy in this attack.

The injured students, including an AISA leader, were rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital. They are now out of danger.

According to eyewitnesses it all started while the meting of the Senate was on. The AISA started having its own parallel meeting on the occasion. What transpired in between could not be known but suddenly the entire campus was taken by a storm as some students exploded bombs and fired shots.

AISA has been campaigning for students’ union election, so were the other students’ outfit such as AISF, ABVP, Chhatra Janata Dal (United) etc.

When the chief minister Nitish Kumar visited the Patna College campus on January 19 to take part in the 150th anniversary function the students raised the similar demand. The chief minister allowed them to speak and even assured that their demands would be fulfilled.

But Saturday’s violence came as a big surprise as it happened in the presence of police which remained mute spectators for quite long before it finally intervened.

Students anger was very much palpable against the state government. They charged that they do not have even drinking water facilities in the colleges and PU campus itself.

But the Chhatra Janata Dal (United) blamed the VC for the mismanagement and lack of facilities in the University.
