LJP, CPI (ML) come to Katju’s support

Patna,(BiharTimes): Lok Janshakti Party and the CPI ML have strongly come out in favour of the remarks of the Chairman of Press Council of India, Justice (Retired) Markandey Katju.

Referring to the chief minister Nitish Kumar LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan said those who claim to have fought Press censorship during Emergency are now undermining freedom of the Fourth Estate.

Welcoming what Justice Katju had said the LJP leader felt he had brought the reality of Bihar government before the people. Mediapersons are not free to express their views openly in Nitish Kumar‘s Bihar.

He said that a delegation of Lok Janshakti Party would also call on President Pratibha Patil over the issue of violation of media freedom in Bihar.

Criticising Sushil Kumar Modi for his comments against Katju the LJP chief said the deputy chief minister ridiculed the Chairman of an important body like the Press Council of India. Such a thing had never happened in Bihar politics and it is a matter of shame.

On the other hand CPI(ML) Bihar state secretary Nand Kishore Prasad on Saturday described as absolutely true Justice Katju’s comment on Press freedom in Bihar.

In a press statement he said the media is passing through the worst phase under Nitish Kumar's rule. He said the policy on advertisements adopted by the Nitish Kumar government had adversely affected freedom of expression as media houses have been compelled to bow down before the government which is dangerous for democracy.
