Explosives recovered, case lodged against former Bihar BJP president

Patna,(BiharTimes): A case has been lodged against former Bihar BJP president, Gopal Narayan Singh, following recovery of about 40,000 detonators, 30,000 gel and huge quantity of ammonium nitrate in Rohtas district. The police also seized about 50 vehicles, including tractors, and arrested 40 persons on Sunday.

Police recovered explosives from Singh’s office and also seized an excavator. It also seized JCB machine and other equipment. Explosives were found concealed inside the earth. The illegal miners also fired at the police.According to reports a blast in a house at Karawandia, about 10 km from the district headquarters, Sasaram, on Friday alerted the administration which suspected more explosives were hidden in the forest area.

Three persons were injured in the incident.Superintendent of Police, Rohtas, Manu Maharaj, who led the raid said on Sunday that an FIR has been lodged against those who had taken lease for quarrying, including former state BJP president Gopal Narayan Singh. They have been charged with illegal quarrying and under various Sections of the Explosives Act. It needs to be recalled that a named FIR was also lodged against Singh in November, 2011, in connection with illegal stone quarrying.The environment and forest department had recently lodged FIR against 4,000 registered and unregistered tractors engaged in illegal mining. The district administration had dismantled many illegal crushers units in November, 2011, and an assistant mining officer was suspended.
