Nitish to inaugurate 150th anniversary function of Patna College

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Nitish Kumar will on Monday inaugurate the 150th anniversary function of Patna College on its campus.

The Speaker of Bihar Legislative Assembly Uday Narayan Chaudhary will be the guest of honour. Patna University VC Shambhu Nath Singh will preside over it.

Patna College was established on Januray 9, 1863. It precedes Patna Science College, Bihar College of Engineering, Patna Medical College and Hospital, Vanijya Mahavidyala and several other premier institutes of Patna University.

It functioned as Government College until it became a constituent unit of Patna University on January 2, 1952.

It has produced renowned scientists, administrators, jurists, journalists, lawyers academics etc. In the past it was also called as Oxford of the East.

Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narain, the first chief minister of Bihar, Srikrishna Sinha, his finance minister, Anugrah Narain Sinha, former Chief Justice of India B P Sinha, Sachchidanand Sinha, Sir Sultan Ahmad, and Hindi poet Ram Dhari Singh Dinkar are some of the prominent figures who passed out from here.

Besides, scholars like Sir Jadunath Sarkar, Azimuddin Ahmad, Ramavatar Sharma, R P Khosla, S C Sarkar, Gorakhnath Sinha, D M Dutta, Gyan Chand, K K Datta and Syed Hasan Askari are among those associated with this college as its teachers.
