Steep rise in theft: Patna Police launch Neighbourhood Watch campaign

Patna,(BiharTimes): Taken aback by the steep rise in incdients of theft and burglary the Patna Police on Tuesday launched the Neighbourhood Watch campaign.
Citizens of Patna have been asked to keep their neighbours posted whenever they go out of station.
Members of Quick Mobile Service and Patna Police Youth Club will soon visit households in the city to involve neighbours in the safekeeping of each other’s houses when one among them is on vacation.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Alok Kumar the police will go to all the households and request the families to co-ordinate with two of their neighbours. When a family is out of town, the other two neighbours would keep a tab on the house of the former. By now, the contact numbers of all police officers are available with the residents and in case of any problem, the neighbours can call the police.
Mobile Service and Patna Police Youth Club will ensure that meetings are conducted in the matter in each neighbourhood so that a consensus is reached.
The SSP also announced that around 70 video cameras would be soon distributed among the station house officers in Patna to record statements of criminals and rioting incidents.
But what the Patna Police have failed to explain is how will they stop theft and dacoity taking place in the house full of people. In recent months burglars have targeted the house of an MLC and an IPS officers––not to speak of common people.
Last week dacoits broke into the house of accountant of Potal Department in Hardinge Road even when his wife and mother were very much in the house. The dacoits locked them in the bathroom and looted the entire ornaments and cash from his house.
