Why Nitish was absent from Kamla Persad Bissessar’s visit?

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is considered as a perfect host. But his complete absence from the visit of the Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, Kamla Persad Bissessar ’s January 11 visit to her ancestral village, Bhelupur in Buxar district, came as a huge surprise to the media pundits as well as common citizens all over the state. It is other thing that they are not raising this question.

Nitish was neither at the airport nor was there at Bhelupur in Buxar district. Only the state’s art and culture minister, Sukhda Pandey, who is also a local MLA, accompanied her.

This behaviour of his is in total contrast to the way he hosted the Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Chandra Ramgoolam when he visited his ancestral village Harigaon in Bhojpur district in February 18-20, 2008.

Ramgoolam not only visited his ancestral village but also paid a visit to Nalanda, the home district of chief minister, Gaya and Siwan. The Bihar government installed a statue of his father, also former Prime Minister Seewoosagar Ramgoolam, near Patna’s Gandhi Maidan and named a road after him. In fact Navin himself unveiled the statue and a big function was organized at S K Memorial Hall.

Incidentally, Nitish himself paid a visit to Mauritius in the last week of July 2007. This notwithstanding the fact that Bihar was not going to get any big investment. Nor is there any scope of remittance from there.

Apart from being of Bihar origin Persad is a Prime Minister of a sovereign nation and deserves to be welcomed in the state. Any chief minister of the state would have greeted her to the state.

Only a day before her arrival Nitish visited Bodh Gaya to share dais with Dalai Lama. He even asked him to visit Bihar more regularly.

But on January 11, the day of her visit, he flew to Siwan for his Sewa Yatra from the same airport where the Trinidadian Prime Minister was about to land a few hours later.

Nitish is master in marketing his government. So when movie star Shah Rukh Khan came and went without getting an audience with him some questions were raised. But then, it was argued that Shah Rukh’s proclivity towards Congress might have kept Nitish away. But there was no scope of such politics in case of the Caribbean leader.

So if not investment and remittance Mauritius is known for other financial reason too. Poor Trinidad and Tobago does not fit in.
